Shannon came into a very ‘dirty’ program where players were getting arrested and not graduating, upon Shannon’s arrival he completely changed what the University of Miami was known for and made it into a clean program. Over Shannon’s time at the U, only ONE player was arrested. Compare that one arrest to Urban Meyer‘s thirty plus arrests while being at Florida. And this year the University of Miami football graduation rate is third, improving from one-hundred and twenty-two before he was named head coach, the two schools ahead of the Hurricanes; Army and Navy.
Shannon brought the Hurricanes to two bowl games, losing both, but improved his record while at Miami every year except for this year. As well as bringing in a top 25 recruiting classes almost every year that he was there. Bringing in recruits to Miami is tough in itself considering they have average to decent facilities and don’t have an on-campus stadium, thus leading to poor attendance.
The University of Miami should be ashamed of themselves and it still isn’t clear to me why they think they can achieve their goals with another coach. All they are doing now is setting themselves back at least two years, changing most of the coaching staff, and if the new coach wants a different offense the players Shannon recruited won’t fit the mold, ask Rich Rodriguez if using another coaches recruits works.
